Museum Identity - Name

MUSEUM IDENTITY

Graphic Identity for NEW Gulf Coast Contemporary Art Museum
The inclusion of a contemporary art museum in the gulf coast region is intended to attract international business and investment in the area. In order to do so the museum is seeking a cutting edge graphic identity for a museum that exhibits contemporary works of relevant and significant art.
For example some of the artists to exhibit in the new space will be Nick Cave (NOT THE MUSICIAN), Swoon, Takashi Murakami, Fischli and Weiss, Chris Burden, Nancy Rubins, Mary Reid Kelley, Jessica Stockholder, Jeff Koons, Tony Oursler, Marvin Gaye Chetwynd, Jennifer Steinkamp, Diana Thater, Ai Weiwei, Stan Douglas, Jenny Holzer, Barbara Kruger, Laurie Simmons, Damian Ortega, Eddie Martinez, Kerry James Marshall, Thomas Hirschhorn, Theaster Gates and Andrea Zittel.
It is important that the identity carry with it the stature and relevance of a contemporary museum, linking its work to the canon of art, with all of the cultural import that implies (a direct relationship between contemporary artists and the history of art).

Link to Google Drive Folder with an example from Spring 2016:
Palafox Institute of Contemporary Art

1. You will work on creating the name of your museum.
The name of the museum must have either the word Art or Design, must include the name of a place in the Gulf Coast, and at least one other word. The name of your museum can NOT already exist.
For example:
Pace Art Space
or
Fort Walton Museum of Contemporary Art
or
Destin Design Center

Due: Monday March 4th I would like you to come up with 3 different names for your museum and I would like you to present them each with a list of 10 different typefaces.  Place each name with the 10 different typefaces on a separate 8.5 x 11 in. document. You should be selective in your typeface choices. (DO NOT USE NOVELTY TYPEFACES sometimes referred to as FANCY FACES! ie. Papyrus, Comic Sans, Marker Felt, Herculanum, Desdemona etc.) It is OK if typefaces are repeated from one name to the next. I would like you to present them to the class as a group. We will have a group critique determining which name has the most advantages. Everybody must have this posted to there blog. Additionally, everybody  must research one of the contemporary artists listed above and post three images of their work to their blog and briefly present your findings about the artist with the class.
